Tickets

Picture
In our classroom, we use a ticket system to reinforce behaviors. Students can be given tickets for things like being on task, being respectful, participating, or working hard. Their tickets will go into a weekly drawing. If their ticket is drawn, they can go shopping at our class store. They can buy small prizes like a new pencil or an eraser, or they can buy larger items like a lunch date with the teacher.

Reflect & Refocus

Students get two reminders from the teacher for negative behavior such as distracting others, saying unkind things, not focusing on work, behaving in an unsafe manner, etc. On the third reminder students will be asked to fill out a "Reflect & Refocus" form.

The purpose of the form is not to embarrass, single out, or to make them feel bad about themselves, but rather for them to have a chance to stop, think over their actions, and reflect on how to manage the behavior better in the future. It serves as a pause and thinking time before acting further.

Refocus forms are sent home to be signed by the parent to communicate behaviors and are to be returned to school the next day. I may communicate with you if somehow the refocus form hasn't made it's way back to me. As always, please feel free to reach out to me if the purpose of the refocus or situation was unclearly explained. I have the kids write the reflection on their own, only prompting when they need it.
